Rethinking Security submits and publishes policy recommendations in its own name but coordinates its policy work through a Political Engagement Working Group. This includes policy and advocacy specialists from the Acronym Institute for Disarmament Diplomacy, Airwars, American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), APPG on Modern Conflict, BASIC, British Pugwash, Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT), CND, Ceasefire, Christian Aid, Conciliation Resources, Conflict and Environment Observatory (CEOBS), Equal Right, Foreign Policy Centre, Gender Action for Peace and Security (GAPS), Health Poverty Action, International Alert, LSE IDEAS – Conflict Research Programme, Medact, Mercycorps, NATO Watch, Nuclear Education Trust, Peace Direct, Protection Approaches, Quaker Peace and Social Witness (QPSW), Saferworld, Scientists for Global Responsibility, Shadow World Investigations, Tearfund, UNA-UK, Unredacted, and several universities.

The working group aims to provide a supportive community of practice for those interested in developing and articulating alternatives to the current approach to security policy. As well as developing evidence submissions and policy briefings, we also help to organise parliamentary debates and meetings with parliamentarians, and provide advice on attending party conferences, submitting motions, questions and other forms of advocacy.

Rethinking Security is not affiliated with any political party and aims to work with all parties, as well as the non-political civil service and military, in pursuit of its objectives.

If your organisation is seeking to engage critically with UK security policy and would like to know more about how our network cooperates on political engagement, please get in touch.
